Heavy Duty Shaft Machining
Client: Cement Industry
Manufactured large-diameter shafts for a cement plant's conveyor system. The shafts were required for replacement of worn-out rollers in a heavy-duty belt conveyor system handling raw materials including limestone, clay, and iron ore.
These shafts were critical to the plant's production operations, and any failure would result in costly production stoppages. The client required shafts that would withstand heavy loads, abrasive environment, and continuous operation.
Specifications:
- Shaft Diameter: 150 mm at bearing sections, 130 mm at roller sections
- Overall Length: 2500 mm per shaft
- Quantity: 8 units
- Material: EN9 Carbon Steel, normalized and turned
- Key Operations: Rough turning, finish turning, step machining, keyway cutting on both ends
- Keyway: 36 mm × 16 mm parallel key at drive end, 28 mm × 12 mm at tail end
Quality Assurance:
Each shaft was inspected for dimensional accuracy, concentricity between bearing steps (within 0.03 mm), and keyway fit. The shafts were supplied with protective coating for corrosion resistance during storage and installation.
The client reported successful installation and smooth operation of the conveyor system with the new shafts.
