Project
Lathe Turning for Power Plant Component
Client: Power Generation Company
Complex lathe turning operation for manufacturing of turbine auxiliary components for a power generation company. The project involved precision machining of gland steam condenser components requiring accurate fits and leak-proof assembly.
These components were part of a planned maintenance shutdown and required strict adherence to specifications and delivery timeline to avoid delaying the plant restart.
Components Machined:
- Gland Steam Cooler Covers (2 units): Facing, boring, and drilling on stainless steel covers, 800 mm diameter
- Drain Pot Assemblies (3 units): Complete machining of body and cover, threaded connections, and flange facing
- Instrument Tee Connectors (6 units): Precision turning and threading of small diameter fittings in carbon steel
- Seal Water Pipe Adapters (4 units): Stepped turning and threading, BSP threads, copper nickel material
Challenges:
Some components required machining of non-standard materials (stainless steel 316L and copper-nickel alloy) which demanded careful selection of cutting parameters and tooling to achieve required surface finish and dimensional accuracy.
