Surface Grinding Project
Client: Machine Tool Manufacturer
High-precision surface grinding for machine tool components with strict flatness requirements. The client, a machine tool manufacturer, required surface grinding of machine beds and slideways for their new range of production lathes.
This project demanded exceptional accuracy as the ground surfaces serve as reference and sliding surfaces for the machine tool. Any deviation would directly affect the accuracy of the finished machine tools.
Components Ground:
- Machine Beds (3 units): Surface grinding of bed ways, 2000 mm length, flatness within 0.01 mm across full length
- Cross Slide Assemblies (3 units): Top and bottom surfaces ground for parallelism within 0.005 mm
- Tool Post Slides (3 units): Dovetail guide surfaces ground to specified angles and dimensions
- Tailstock Base Plates (3 units): Bottom surface ground flat within 0.005 mm for proper alignment
Specifications Achieved:
Flatness: 0.005 mm to 0.01 mm as required
Surface Finish: 0.4 Ra on sliding surfaces, 0.8 Ra on non-critical surfaces
Parallelism: Within 0.005 mm for mating surfaces
Angular Accuracy: ±0.01 degrees for dovetail surfaces
